Every household has certain necessities that must always be in stock. Things like toilet paper, hand soap, and hot sauce (at least in my household).
Whenever the supply of any of these necessities gets low, I have to put it on my shopping list and buy it on my next trip to the store. Wouldn’t it be neat if the supply of each necessity could be automatically metered and reordered online whenever it starts running out?
This idea had actually already been implemented by Amazon years ago, but was discontinued. Maybe it can still work. Sometimes the time is not right or the implementation needs to be improved upon and streamlined.
I have a storage room in my basement where I store a supply of some necessities. Perhaps a reorder button could be placed above each storage area to reorder. Or there could be some kind of a presence sensor that detects if there is product at a certain location on a shelf, and reorder if there is not. Maybe such a system would be better implemented in a warehouse or retail store environment rather than a typical household environment.
As for Amazon Dash that I mentioned above, it was not entirely discontinued. Instead of sending you little physical buttons for reordering, they’ve now integrated the service into Amazon Echo devices (Alexa). Maybe this incarnation of the idea will be more successful? Do you have a better idea?
