Just about every habitable location on Earth has a property owner. With property ownership, the person or organization is entitled to the rights of the land in the real world. But now we have a metaverse, which is the virtual world existing on the internet. Perhaps every property owner should also have rights to a metaverse version of the property.
Imagine if every location on earth had a web address attached to it. The owner of that property would have full rights and control over the web addresses attached to the property. Want to go to the official website of the restaurant you’re eating at? Just pull up the location-specific web address of that location. Finding the location-specific web address of any location can be as easy as pressing a button on your smartphone to check your GPS location and looking up the associated web address.
A website called What3Words has implemented a neat idea for giving every location on Earth a unique 3-word address. If enough people were to adopt What3Words as a standard for location-specific domains, the ideas here could become reality.
