Nobody is perfect. Everyone knows this, but yet, everyone goes onto dating sites every day looking for a perfect match.
Naturally, when someone creates a dating site profile, they put down only the best about themselves. Dating profiles are like advertisements. They will never say anything negative.
When someone makes a decision about a product to buy online, they shouldn’t make their decision based solely on the product description and advertising material. They should always look at the product reviews and decide if there are any deal-breakers in the reported flaws. Maybe this is the way dating apps should work. Instead of hiding the flaws, perhaps they should be highlighting them so potential dates can make better decisions about the match.
I envision a dating app that encourages members to be vulnerable, accentuate their flaws, socialize with one another, meet up, and maybe fall in love despite the flaws in each other. It would be like a support group for people without the highest self esteem. That’s not to say it’s for people with low self-esteem, but it’s definitely not for egotists and narcissists. Such a dating app would lay out the flaws at the outset, so people can decide whether they can live with those flaws or not. I think that a dating app that accentuates the flaws in people would allow for better matches and longer-lasting relationships.
