Back when I was in seventh grade, around 1991, I went to Campus Middle School in Englewood, Colorado. My gym teacher was Mr. Gott. At the time, I was a huge baseball fan and knew of all the baseball players. But I never put two and two together that Mr. Gott was related to Jim Gott, the star relief pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
At lunch one day, my best friend excitedly told me that Mr. Gott’s brother was a Major League Baseball player and he was giving out autographs in the school that day. He offered to get me one, and sure enough, he got me the card you see above.
Jim Gott closed out his 14-year Major League career in 1995. I think he’s the bullpen coach for the Philadelphia Phillies now (as of 2020).
